Dearey seeks extension of Dublin Bikes Scheme to Laytown station.

Senator Mark Dearey has written to the Transport Officer in Dublin City Council, Mr Ciaran Fallon, seeking an extension of the Dublin Bikes Scheme to include a bike station at Laytown train station.

Dearey outlined how the Bike Scheme might work at Laytown station pointing out that by day visitors from Dublin would be encouraged to take the train to Laytown to use a bike to go about their business or leisure activity and return it before catching the train home. East Meath commuters living within a couple of miles of the station could also make use of the bikes taking one for the cycle home in the early evening and bringing it back before their days work in Dublin the following day. It would mean the bikes would be in use around the clock and would reduce parking pressure and the amount of traffic on the roads, which are under serious pressure at present.

“It would be a small step but an important improvement for the area”, claimed Senator Dearey. Mr. Fallon, has responded to Senator Dearey’s letter acknowledging the merit of the idea and offering to discuss it further and to develop it with the Dublin City Bikes Scheme. Senator Dearey said he will continue to pursue the idea to its completion because he believes there is a demand for cleaner and cheaper transport options in the area.
