General Election candidate Sen. Mark Dearey has highlighted the particular difficulty facing voters in East Meath who now have to choose from a list of unfamiliar Louth based-politicians as well as one from West Belfast. This follows a review of constituency boundaries that recommended that the area between the M1 and the Meath coastline becomes part of the Louth constituency.
Senator Dearey explained, "Over the weekend voters in Mornington, Bettystown and Grange Rath were telling me that until they saw the posters going up last Tuesday and Wednesday they hadn't appreciated the fact that they were no longer in the Meath constituency. This means that there will be no familiar faces from previous elections on the ballot papers on 25th February."
"If elected I look forward to the challenge of properly addressing the needs of the people of East Meath. And as a Councillor with a track record in job creation and sustainable community planning it’s a challenge I know I can meet.” Dearey concluded “The key message I am hearing in the area is that families and individuals are giving all they can in taxes. The warning to the next government is clear - any more increases in income tax will drive people into the shadow economy or emigration."
