Leave current self-assessment tax date in place

Green Party Enterprise spokesperson Mark Dearey has called on the Minister for Finance Brian Lenihan to reverse the proposed change of date for self-assessed individuals to ‘pay and file’. The Finance Bill will see the deadline for self-assessed tax payers brought forward a month to September 30.

Senator Dearey said: “Given the trading conditions most self-employed and self-assessed people are having to deal with at present, there is every chance that bringing the reporting date forward by a month will cause liquidity problems for many small and medium enterprises and sole traders. Maintaining the current date of October 31 is clearly revenue neutral and has no budgetary implications. I would hope the Minister will take this into account.”
